So, last post I said that Zak and Bro are two of a group of three brothers. Why then, you may be asking, did I only introduce the first two and ignore the third?
Well, the answer is simple. Ken, the third brother, is NOT a playable character. He's an important character, sure. In fact, he's the single most prominent NPC who helps the playable group out, especially when they find out about the upcoming Elemental Shift. Ken's recurring throughout most of the game once the player first meets him and he's one of the most influential characters in the sense that he gets a lot of the game's main story points rolling.
Ken just never joins the team. Ken is an intellectual, not a fighter. He'd only slow the party down, so instead helps out by being the brains of the operation. I wish I had some sort of artwork for him, but because he doesn't appear in any fights, I clearly haven't done a battle sprite for him. When I get some sketches made up of him (and the others) I'll be sure to post it here.

The Two Main Characters
Alright, let's start this off with Elementality's two main characters! Yes, two! choices throughout the game will determine which of these two brothers will play the bigger role in the story. Hooray for multiple playthroughs!
Anyway, let's introduce our boys! On the left we have Zak, the older of the three brothers (that's right, three brothers, but we'll get to that later) and on the right we have... Zak's brother who doesn't have a name yet... so I guess I'll just call him Bro for this post.

Of the two, Zak is the more down to earth brother, while Bro is more of the day dreamer. While Zak seems more negative and doesn't really accept the world as it's given to him, it doesn't mean he's a bad guy, he's just the more realistic of the two brothers. Bro, on the other hand is an optimistic, somewhat foolhardy young man. He always jumps at a chance to help and later describes that saving the world would be '"the ultimate good deed!"
They're two very different people, but they balance each other out. Zak keeps Bro from getting his head lost in the clouds, while Bro makes sure that Zak lightens up every once in a while.
Zak uses the European style Broad Sword as his chosen weapon and his skills lean more towards the agressive side, while Bro is more adept at the quick Eastern style Katana and his skills are geared more towards defensive traits.
As I said, different choices made by the player will have an effect on which brother takes the spotlight in certain scenes. This leads to branching conversations and sometimes to different quests or items!
I hope you guys like these sprites! The style is borrowed from the Game Boy Advance Fire Emblem games which I think are very easy to detail and create a variety of poses. tell me what you think! Also, as I said, Bro doesn't have an official name yet so remember to post your ideas in the comment section!

The World of Elementality
OK, I lied. We won't be meeting the characters yet. First, I figured I'd tell everyone about how the world of Elementality works.
In the world of Elementality, everything is balanced by 10 elemental forces; Fire, Ice, Water, Lightning, Earth, Wind, Energy, Spirit, Light and Shadow. The problem is that these forces must be in a very tight balance, which isn't always the case. Every few hundred years, the elemental forces are thrown out of wack when one or more elements are much stronger or much weaker than the others, resulting in the total destruction of civilzation. Life begins anew, and society is built from the ground up, completely different from the civilization and culture of the one before it. These are called Elemental Shifts.
These 10 forces don't just form the world, though. They also form the people as well. Every person born is inherently bonded with one of the elements. The element that someone is bonded to can be focused and controlled with enough training. In some Elemental Shifts, those who practiced the use of Elements were regarded highly, while in other Shifts, they were deemed cursed. Each time civilization was built from nothing, Elements were regarded differently by the people.
Jump forward to the current Shift that the game takes place in. Elements are a long forgotten legend. Some people believe in the use of Elements, but they are a very small minority, as most poeple see them as folklore, childish stories of the past.
This all changes when those who can harness Elements, Elementalists as they are known, begin to rise up, and signs of the Elemental shift all point to the end of this era. Once again, the world's destruction is imminent.
OK, I hope that makes sense to everyone. This whole idea of Elements forming the world will be explained to the player slowly as the game progresses. But for now, I hope that everyone gets the idea so we can continue. Next time; the characters!

What is Elementality?
Hello, all! Welcome to the blog dedicated to the development of Elementality, a japanese style RPG made with RPGMaker VX. Now, the blog is pretty much made for my friends who are involved in the game, but if you wandered here from beyond the internets, then... welcome, I guess...
Elementality is the story of two brothers who are entrusted with saving the world from annihilation. I promise that there's more to the story than that, but I figured it'd be better if we met our main characters. And we'll do so, in the next post!
If you're involved with the project, feel free to say so in the comment section!
